Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday May 11, 2018

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report For the most part the fishing this past week has been nothing short of exceptional. There was the odd morning where it was a little slower because some transient orcas passed by, but besides that, the fishing has been very consistent. Most of the fishing pressure has been around South Bowen, and for good reason, as the bait has been thick and that means chinook. Most of the fish have been full of 3-4 inch herring and we have seen some anchovies in the mix as well. When we have ventured out of this productive area (when it slows down) we have been rewarded with some great fishing off the QA and Bell Buoy too. There really…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 23, 2018

Lars’ guest with one of three nice fish landed that day on a 5-hour trip. The fish have been anywhere from right off bottom in the shallower waters close to the Bell all the way up to about 60 feet when out in deeper waters off the QA and SE corner of the Hump.  This is where good electronics really pay off as we were clearly marking bait balls and arcs on all our trips and adapting each day based on how deep the bait and fish were. Some bait just off the bottom about a third of the way out to the QA from the Bell. We fished some bait this week but spoons were the clear winner and some bigger sizes have been...

Vancouver salmon fishing report
Captain Tom’s guest Emma visiting from Sweden with a beauty winter chinook. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Looks like we left some of the cold weather behind us for now, with some bright and sunny days in the forecast for the next few days so don’t forget to bring your sunglasses if you are heading out on the water this weekend. Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for March 9, 2018. In terms of where to go this weekend, we have had great fishing up Howe Sound this week, and the Harbour has also produced a couple of fish if you’re looking to stay closer to home.  If the marine forecast allows for a crossing, we have also had great chinook reports from the...

Vancouver salmon fishing report
Some productive trips at the Cap this week!  Can't beat fishing close to home. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report It’s that time of year where we look forward to some of the bigger white chinook showing up in our local waters and so far so good. We have had some good catches this past week off the Cap, as the low-pressure system mid week seemed to concentrate the fish off the river mouth. Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for Sept. 22, 2017. IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Port of Vancouver is paying close attention to the boat traffic off the Cap Mouth and is currently in meetings with and taking input from different sectors. We don’t want this fishery to close. I will be in some...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report
Congratulations to James on his first ever chinook that he caught while fishing with his Dad this past week off Roger Curtis after stopping by Pacific Angler to pick up some new rods and tackle! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Happy Canada Day Long Weekend!  There is lots going on out in the saltwater this time of year, so let’s get right into it! The coho are in the Cap, if you don’t think so just take a trip to the hatchery and you will see that it is packed with nice size coho and anglers are catching them in the Cable Pool.  There hasn’t been much effort by the saltwater anglers off W. Van, but the time to start looking around is right now. ...

Vancouver salmon fishing report

VANCOUVER SALTWATER SALMON FISHING REPORT Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report Well looks like the rains are on the way.  Good news for those fishing the Cap, Vedder, and Chehalis rivers, not so much for the saltwater anglers.  The forecast for Friday is for 5-10 mm, Saturday 30-40 mm, and Sunday 20-30 mm.  This will, without a doubt, raise the level of the Capilano River to a point where the coho and chinook make an attempt to go up the river.  That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go fishing though.  One of the best days I have ever had at the Cap was when it was pouring rain and the river was high.  All the chinook stacked up right at the mouth by the green marker before heading…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: July 8, 2016

Beach Fishing Overview The Capilano river levels play a huge effect on the beach fishing scenario. The river has been really low for a while so we will have to see if this rain is going to rise the river level or not, however the tides are not in our favor to fish off the beach until Thursday when the tide goes lower than 6 feet again. If you are fishing terminal tackle you can always fish off the jetty or fish off a boat in the bay. Also the full moon will help the coho navigate themselves to there native river so expect to see the numbers of salmon increase after this moon cycle. The biggest tip I can give you is to change your…

SALTWATER REPORTS Beach Fishing Report It is that time again to get your beach fishing tackle ready as the coho salmon will start accumulating in our estuary at the mouth of the Capilano River. The river is low and will probably stay like that as there is no rain in the forecast. Some coho have been caught already with gear, so as more fish start milling around the chance of catching them on the fly increases. The low tides are in our favour this week so take advantage of this if you can and get on the water. I have the beach flies in the store and if you like to have a better understanding of this intense fishery join me in our Fly Fishing…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: June 24, 2016

VANCOUVER SALTWATER REPORT There is a lot to talk about this week so let’s just jump right into it.  The bait continues to move around the South Bowen and Gibson area.  Where you find bait you find chinook and coho.  It is pretty much that simple.  Now being in the right place at the right time, not so much!  Add some orcas into the mix and you have a recipe for some highly variable fishing.  When the whales haven’t crashed the party and the bait is around, the fishing sure has been good.  Lots of chinook and some nice size coho as well.  The fact the bait is shallow and the salmon are shallow has also made it a lot fun to work the gear….

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: June 17, 2016

Well the fishing on South Bowen from Cowan Point to Roger Curtis continued to be good this past week.  Saturday in particular was very good, Sunday was slow, but then it picked up again mid week.  The chinook, and now plentiful coho, seem to be full of anchovies for the most part.  The bait has been fairly shallow and so are the salmon.  Hot depths have been 20-80 on the riggers with 35, 45, 55, 65 being hot.  Try shallower when it is overcast and deeper when it is sunny.  Productive flashers have been the gold or silver Betsy or Super Betsy, Green Onion or Green Onion Glow, Purple Onion or Purple Onion Glow, UV Jelly Fish Yellow Green Kinetic Mist aka Club Dub or…
