VANCOUVER SALMON FISHING REPORT: April 1, 2016

Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report Well, spring has sprung!  We are starting to get solid reports from chinook out on the Hump off South Bowen, a sure sign spring is in the air.  There have also been some nice winter chinook taken up Howe Sound as well as a few fish off the Bell Buoy. Without a doubt, the place to be in the next 6 weeks is going to be the Hump.  As early as April 4th we have had good to excellent fishing in this spot.  Usually it takes until around April 10th, but it seems more and more anglers are tying this spot earlier and earlier and finding some fish for their efforts.  You may have seen us on BC Outdoors Sportfishing TV…

Well it was a pretty active week and weekend since our last report as a lot of fish rolled in!  On Saturday, the Bell Buoy looked like the August long weekend with at least 40 boats.  The herring were in the area and the chinook piled in as well.  It was some of the best early season fishing any of us have ever seen.  By best I mean that some limits were taken on the morning of Friday and Saturday on 5 hour charters.  That is good fishing anytime of the year but for March that is red hot.  Things slowed down considerably on Sunday as expected as the fishing was hot there on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  A lot of fish ended up on…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: March 18, 2016

This week was much better for weather once that big storm system pushed through on Sunday.  There were some beauty days on the water mid week and we were happy to be out personal fishing as well as on charters. The harbour has been pretty darn good for a few weeks now with fish off W. Van shoreline in 90-120 feet of water, the Mile Markers and Bell Buoy in 90-130 feet of water and the Freighters in 120-140 feet of water.  The usual tactic of keeping your gear just off bottom and covering water has produced some chinook from just legal size all the way up to the high teens! Howe Sound continues to produce similar sized fish from just legal size up to…

Well the wind and the rain is here but so are some fish!  There has been good fishing for winter chinook in the harbour this past week.  There have been fish along W. Van on the flood and there has been fish off the Mile Markers and Bell Buoy on the flood and the ebb.  Howe Sound continues to produce some fish, but classic winter chinook fishing, hot one day and cold the next.  If you are in the right spot at the right time, the fish are getting big!  We have seen some fish in the 10 to 20 pound range this week.  The top baits haven’t changed much.  Pesca Spoons and Kingfisher Spoons that have some glow and some green in them are…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: March 4, 2016

Vancouver Saltwater fishing Report We heard of some good reports this week from up Howe sound and near the bell in the harbor. One report was interesting with guys fishing large 4 inch Pesca spoons in the gut bomb and cluopia. This is interesting because most anglers focus on smaller spoons this time of year in the 2.5-3.0 inch size but the guys managed a good number of legal fish and the herring in their bellies were larger.  Seals still posed an issue in the harbour but we also saw some good keepers caught off the bell this week. It looks like there will be some wind in the forecast this weekend so check your weather reports before heading out. The tides look good in…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: February 26, 2016

Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report Consistent has been the word that best describes this years winter chinook season. When the weather has permitted anglers usually find fish but we have not had any epic reports.  Anglers have been finding fish in the harbor, up Howe Sound, down towards the mouth of the Fraser and across the straight but no spot has been a go to “hot spot”. Minus a little rain, the marine forecast looks good for fishing Friday with high slack tides early. Tomorrow and Sunday may see some wind but it is suppose to calm down for Monday with a 9 am morning slack tide. Historically the best fishing is still ahead of us so we are looking forward to seeing how the winter…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report February 18th, 2016

A customer shared this picture with us! Look at all the herring that were inside this winter chinook!!  The Report Well to say it has been wet lately has been an understatement. For the most part we have been on the sidelines with the wet and windy weather. There was one exception this past week and that was Tuesday. Those that were lucky enough to get out on Tuesday had some good fishing, calm seas, and sunny skies. Except for that day though, the weather has been pretty ugly. It looks like this weekend will be a mix of sun and clouds and by Monday we are forecast to get a few days of back to back sun! The winds don’t look that bad either,…

Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report: Feb 12th, 2016

Another week of winter chinook fishing and not much has changed. The big highlight of the week was the great weather on Monday. With the holiday many customers were out on the water enjoying the relatively calm seas, blue skies, and that big yellow thing in the sky called the sun! The same theme from the past 2 weeks continues, you need to be at the right place at the right time. There continues to be some fish taken up Howe Sound, the harbour was slow for the most part, Coal Ports was slow for the most part, and Porlier was over run with sea lions and fishing was tough. Most of the fish that were taken were of typical size, in the 8-12 pound…

Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report, Feb 5th, 2016

Things were fairly consistent this past week, not red hot fishing, but certainly better than the fishing around the full moon in late January. For the most part there were fish to be had in Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound, and the Gulf Islands. Those who put their time in were rewarded with a fish or two. The fish have generally been in the 8-12 pound range although we have seen a few in the mid to high teens. There really hasn’t been a stand out spot this year so far and this season is starting to look like it will be more of a “normal” season compared to last year which was one of the best in a long time. Our best advice for this…

Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report: January 29th, 2016

Fishing continued to be decent this past week but you definitely needed some luck on your side when it came to picking your locations. Last week on our guided trips and personal trips we fished Vancouver Harbour, multiple spots throughout Howe Sound, Coal Ports and Porlier. I feel like we got a pretty good sampling of what is going on out there and some spots were decent, others were very quiet, but none were what we would call on fire. Some of that slower action likely had to do with the full moon around the 23rd. Now that we have that out of the way, we expect things will pick up a bit more. In Vancouver Harbour it was relatively slow and there are lots…
