Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 14, 2017

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report Well things are happening out on the ocean, good things, like lots of fish showing up in multiple locations.  It has been an interesting past couple of weeks actually.  Here is a quick recap. Last week we had great fishing all through the weekdays and myself and other guides were anticipating good fishing on the weekend.  We aren’t sure what happened, but the fish really turned off on Saturday.  We could see them on the sounder in multiple locations but they just weren’t biting.  Multiple guide boats had 1 bite all day, including myself, as we were all keeping in touch with each other, trying to figure out what the heck was going on.  Captain Eddie did get on a decent…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 7, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORT   Is it April?   It feels more like January, but hopefully, that will change soon.  Despite the cool and wet weather, the cherry trees are starting to blossom and that is a sure sign that the bait and chinook will start to show up off the Hump and in and around the south Bowen area.  Right on queue, we have encountered fish in both areas this past week, as well as fish up Howe Sound and right in Vancouver Harbour around the Bell and Mile Markers.   I know I am going to get some emails about where the Hump is, so let me tell you.  Take a chart, and head SW off Bowen Island around 3 to 3.5 nautical miles.  You…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 31, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS   Not much has changed since last week, the fish are moving around a lot and that means hit and miss results.  We had some wet days earlier in the week, which made for some cold days out on the water, but these past few days were pretty nice and Eddie was out on a few charters.  Lots of bites these past few days, with double-digit encounters, but not a lot of big fish.  There does seem to be a lot of just under fish around, so that is promising for the future and hopefully they stick around to feed on all the bait we are seeing this year.   The next few weeks will be interesting.  Typically we see some great…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 24, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS   Fishing was pretty solid this past week. There were good reports from Vancouver Harbour, multiple locations in Howe Sound, and fish over in the Gulf Islands. A lot of undersized chinook moved into some of the spots this week, keeping the guides busy with double headers and even a triple. Although exciting, this can make it difficult at times to find the bigger fish as it seems your gear is never in the water. I guess it is better to have lots of bites and some action then no bites at all!   Probably the toughest choice right now is where to go. The fish really are moving around a lot. One day a spot will produce multiple keepers, the next…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 17, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS   Fishing continues to be steady; with fish being caught in Vancouver Harbour and Howe Sound this past week.  As usual, the fish are moving around a lot, searching for bait, here one day gone the next.  If you are in the right place at the right time, there has been some decent action.  Eddie has been out a lot and putting some nice fish in the boat for his guests.  Crabbing has also been decent, although perhaps a touch slower than most years.   The usual flashers and spoon combinations have been producing well.  Flashers with some green and glow on it, like Green Onion Glow and Salty Dawg, are always good choices.  A variety of spoons in the 3.5 range…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 10, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS   Not much has changed in terms of fishing…..except for the weather. We’ve had one extreme to the other and I’ve been using my rain gear and sunglasses all in one trip some days.   Over the last week there was some pretty good fishing in some spots up Howe Sound and slow in other areas on any given day. The harbour has also been producing very well but again there have been good days and slow days. That said, on some of the slow days we’ve come back with stories of the big ones that got away! I wish I could have taken photos of some that almost made it to the net for the report. It’s funny in that just…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 3, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS   Eddie was out on a number of trips this past week and for the most part the fishing was solid.  There were a few nice fish that managed to get away, a few that hit the deck, and a good number of undersize.  We have been focusing our efforts in Vancouver Harbour and not too far up Howe Sound and both areas have been productive.  Crabbing and prawning has also been very good.  There has been solid reports from further up Howe Sound as well as over on the other side at Gabriola and Galiano, but winds have kept us closer to home most days and the fishing in our local waters seems to be as good, sometimes better. The usual…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday February 24, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Fishing this past week was much like the last week. Not red hot, but if you were able to get out on the days where the wind wasn’t too bad, there were some fish around. Howe Sound has been producing a few fish and so has Vancouver Harbour, primarily the Cap mouth on the flood and the freighters or Bell Buoy area on the ebb or flood. Things often pick up around the Bell Buoy in mid March, so keep that on your radar if you are tired of the longer runs up Howe Sound. We didn’t make it across to the Gulf Islands this week, but we have heard of some decent catches on that side. On the tackle side of…

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report Not as much to report this week as we spent most of our time installing new electronics and autopilot into our boats. Sometimes in the winter you have to take advantage of these sunny and dry days to get some work done so you can be out everyday in the spring and summer!   Of course we always manage to sneak out on the water in the busiest of maintenance weeks and fishing is what we would call typical. By that we mean a good number of small fish and a few keepers in the mix. Not much has changed in terms of spots with a mix of fish present in Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound and Gulf Islands….

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday February 10, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report Well it has certainly been true winter chinook fishing this past week with the freezing temperatures and all the snow. That didn’t keep us off the water though, as we picked our days to head out in search of chinook, prawns, and crab. The fishing was decidedly slower for the most part this week with a decent number of small fish around, but not too many keepers. That being said, there were some spots that might have had bigger fish, but with the huge outflow winds most of the week it was hard to get up Howe Sound or to the Gulf Islands for the most part. The winds look more reasonable for the weekend and for the…
