Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday February 3, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report Fishing this week was a little slower than last week and we didn’t have as many opportunities to get out on the water with the strong winds. On the weekend there were a lot of boats up Howe Sound or over in the Gulf Island but for some reason the fishing had turned off a little bit and most boats struggled with nothing or just a fish or two. That said, there is lots of season left and as usual it can pick up any day. When you’re heading out keep your gear close to the bottom. For gear our top flashers are Salty Dawg, Green Onion Glow, Chartreuse Glow. Our most productive spoons are the Kingfisher 3.5…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 27, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report We have been fishing two rods, one per downrigger, and for the most part have been right on the bottom with glow flashers and glow spoons. Our top flashers this week have been the Salty Dawg, Green Onion Glow, Chartreuse Glow, and Lemon Lime. Productive spoons have been the Pesca 3.5 RSG in any colour that has some glow and green or blue on it, like the Janitor, Bogart, Blue Balz, and Sucker Punch. We have been doing very well on the new Pesca 3.5 Forage as well. You have heard us talking about this spoon for the last month and now it is available at the shop. This spoon is a little skinnier and seems to be…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 20, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report I feel like a broken record, but what can I say, the fishing continues to be good! There has been consistent fishing in Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound, and the Gulf Islands for many weeks. There has been the odd slow day or weekend in there, but for the most part the fishing has been very good and should remain so the rest of the winter. Weather was a bit tricky this past 7 days, but we were lucky enough to get out on a few of the days where the winds and rain weren’t too bad.   We have been getting fish from a few pounds all the way up to around 15 pounds and we have seen…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 13, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report The trend of good fishing continues once again with multiple trips this past week producing some nice chinook and prawns. For the most part, the fishing has been very consistent, with only this past Saturday being a little slow for some reason. That didn’t last long though, as on Sunday the fish were back on the bite and we were landing nice chinook into the low teens. The fishing has been good both in Howe Sound and Vancouver Harbour. That has given us plenty of options on both the flood and ebb tide or if it there is too much wind in Howe Sound. These winter chinook move around a lot, so it should be no surprise the…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 6, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report We had a great start to 2017 with multiple trips this week and awesome fishing! There seems to be good numbers of chinook pretty much everywhere with fish in Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound, and the Gulf Islands. I honestly can’t think of a spot where I haven’t heard of or had good fishing, so if you have the time, book a trip as the next month or two should be great.   It is hard to believe how fast November and December have flown by, but with fishing so good, it always seems to go by too fast, so don’t let that happen to you and get a trip in the calendar now. As usual this time of year,…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 30, 2016

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report Well the good fishing has continued.  Looking back, it has been good since mid November now so I can officially say this was one heck of a start to the winter season! The winter chinook are definitely around in full force this year and we have been very busy with lots of charters and the season is just getting going!  We have had some local clients out as well as some clients from the USA and other parts of the world.  Everyone is having a great time enjoying the winter scenery and fishing! Eddie has been on a hot streak, with keeper size chinook in the boat on all his charters for the entire month of December.  He…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 16, 2016

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report We managed to get out on the water this past week despite the wind, snow and cold temperatures. It was well worth it as Eddie’s guests put 3 nice chinook in the boat and got some prawns as well! The winter chinook fishing is definitely off to a strong start. If you have been thinking about booking a trip, I would book now as the fish seem to be around in good numbers and our guides are dialed in. Don’t worry about the cold. It’s not that bad out there if you dress warmly and we have rain gear and heaters on board so you can stay warm and dry! If you are planning on heading out on…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 9, 2016

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report Not too much to report this week as the snow, ice, and winds kept most of us of the water.   There were some outflow winds this week in 50-knot range, that’s quite the wind chill factor. Even with the heater, that’s just a bit too cold to keep the hands working and the bottom of the boat often turns into a skating rink as well. There will be warmer days and better fishing, so stay warm and safe during the snowfall today. See you on the water or in the shop. Jason Tonelli

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 2, 2016

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report Well we were out on some charters this week and were very happy with the results. Without a doubt we have seen an excellent start to the winter chinook season. Locally the fishing has been good and we are starting to hear some reports of good fishing from Nanaimo down to the Gulf Islands. It seems there is a good amount of bait in our local waters and not just the usual herring. The anchovies from this summer are still here, so that is great news. There is a lot of food around for winter chinook and that keeps them in our area longer and they grow that much faster.   The usual winter tactics of keeping your…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Nov 25, 2016

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report Well that was quite the windstorm on Wednesday night, but it looks as though things will be back to a more normal SE wind of 10-20 knots by this weekend. SE usually means rain, so if you are heading out this weekend make sure to dress warm and bring the hot coffee as it is going to be cold, wet, and windy. There haven’t been a lot of boats out lately, as one would expect with the wind and rain, so we don’t have any hot off the press reports. So today we are going to take a look at spoons that are productive for winter chinook. As you likely know, these fish are actively feeding on herring….
