Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Sept 8, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report It’s hard to believe it is Sep 8th already. That means the big white springs should be on the way. There have been a few tyees caught this past week, but for the most part the big wave of whites hasn't shown up off the South Arm or Cap. We have had some pretty big tides this week, so we should see things pick up in both locations in the coming days. The whales were also in these past few days so any reds or whites that were hanging around probably took off up the Fraser with the big tides on the full moon and the orcas swimming around off the South Arm and North Arm. Back tracking a bit...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Sept 1, 2017

Mike Miller from Pier 73 Marina holding up a nice one that tipped the scales at 31.5 pounds! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report We had some classic late August chinook fishing this past week. Relatively calm seas, hot weather, and lots of red springs around. There were some pretty awesome catches of chinook from the South Arm, T 10, North Arm and the Bell Buoy. In particular there were some banner days early in the week at the Bell with Jason, Eddie, and Lars getting limits on their charters some days. As the week progressed it seems those fish moved on or went up the river and the action off the South Arm was more consistent. There was a pulse of fish off the North...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Aug 25, 2017

Some nice chinook from North Arm and South Arm this week. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Fishing was solid this past week with the focus being on chinook salmon. There were good numbers of chinook taken from the Mile Markers, the Bell Buoy, the North Arm, T-10, and South Arm all week. I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo. The when and the where really depended on the tide. With the full moon there were some huge tides and this really pushed the fish around and distributed them to all the spots just listed. You can analyze it all you want, and certain...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Aug 18, 2017

Jason's guests from Arizona were all smiles yesterday after catching a limit of chinook salmon off the South Arm. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The big story this week is the chinook fishing. A nice wave of chinook showed up on Monday and there was some hot fishing from the North Arm all the way down to the South Arm. It slowed down a little mid week as the orcas came in, but that didn't last long and fishing was solid on Friday, including a limit for me on my full day trip and Tom getting into some good numbers off the North Arm on his afternoon trip. The best depths have been 30-80 on the downriggers and as usual, bait is the key. Make...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Aug 11, 2017

Captain Eddie’s guests were from Miami yesterday and landed this beauty while fishing on the other side. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well we are approaching the half way mark of August and there is a lot to report on, so let’s get right to it. Let’s talk about pinks.  It hasn’t been a red-hot year for us trollers, but the beach guys are finally getting some action.  Fishing off the Cap Mouth has been pretty good for pinks and coho.  Things are now pretty consistent off Furry Creek up in Howe Sound as well.  It was definitely a late start but maybe things will continue later on than normal as because they started late.  My friend Trevor is vacationing up around Campbell River and...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Aug 4, 2017

Captain Tom’s guests with some nice fish landed at Cowan earlier this week. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Saltwater reports have been a little soft this week. Guys are catching the odd chinook off Cowen point on the tide change and it is worth a look if you are heading out. Boats around point Atkinson and up Howe Sound have been finding pinks but not consistently. If you are out, look for jumping fish and run pink hootchies in the 30-60ft depth range. We are expecting better things off the Capilano mouth and North Shore but this week we were disappointed with the number of Coho. They should be staking up in good number by now but it hasn’t really happened yet. We are hoping...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday July 28, 2017

Captain Tom's guest with a beauty from earlier this week at the Bell Bouy. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report This past week we split our efforts between the Bell Buoy for chinook and West Van for coho and pinks.  Overall both locations had a few good days and some slow days.  Hopefully things will get a little more consistent as we move into August. Off the Bell Buoy we have been getting chinook from 40-80 on the riggers, with 50-60 been the go to area, as per usual for these Fraser bound fish.  Bait is generally the best producer, so make sure you stock up on your favorite anchovy or herring teaser heads.  As we get into August this fishery will become more consistent and...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday July 21, 2017

Captain Tom got his clients into these 2 nice chinook earlier in the week off South Bowen. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well things finally picked up in the harbour this week with some decent catches of coho, pink, and chinook.  I wouldn't call it red hot for any of these 3 species quite yet, but there are enough fish around to warrant some effort in local waters. Off West Van to the Cap Mouth there were some pinks and some coho caught the last few days and as usual the fish are shallow.  From the surface down to about 50 feet on the riggers is the go to zone.  Your best bests are UV flashers with Moon Jelly or Kinetic tape one them and...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday July 14, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report It’s official, the pinks are here.  We caught our first ones of the year off South Bowen this week.  These pinks are heading to the Squamish as the Fraser fish show up much later, usually early to mid August.  Number should build over the coming weeks to the point where you can head up Howe Sound and fly fish for them or cast pink spinners, spoons, and jigs. Also in the mix this week were some good catches of chinook and coho off S. Bowen.   Like the last couple of weeks there seems to be some decent activity most days from Cowan to Roger Curtis.  Everyday is a little different, but for the most part the fishing has been pretty...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday July 7, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Fishing picked up nicely this week with some great action off S. Bowen from Cowan Point to Roger Curtis as the herring and anchovies moved back in and the chinook came right along with them.  Hot depths were in the 50-100 range on the downriggers.   Anchovies, herring, spoons, and white UV hootchies were all producing well. There was some good fishing at Thrasher this week as well, a little late in the season for this spot, but hey the fish are there and we aren’t complaining.  As usual, the hot weather means some pretty big winds, so it has been tough to get across.  There have been a few windows though, and those that had the right days off did...
