Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday June 23, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well you knew it was coming, the warm summer weather and NW winds have officially arrived.  This has made it difficult to impossible to get over to Thrasher so the vast majority of our trips this past week were confined to local waters or up in Howe Sound to avoid the heavy seas. When the winds allowed we did fish off S. Bowen from Cowan to Roger Curtis and there were some fish around.  There were a couple of days mid week where some decent sized schools of chinook showed up and we had some great fishing.  Other days the numbers were low or the fish were dispersed and we had to grind for the fish we did get.  Nothing...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday June 16, 2017

Jason's guests from Sunday with a couple of nice ones from S. Bowen. Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report This past week things were definitely a little slower than the action we had become accustomed to in May and the first few days of June. There are still some good numbers of chinook around, and some big ones too, but the overall number has dropped and you need a good solid day out on the water to get on top of them. If you are willing to put your time in you should be rewarded with some fish in the boat. The most productive area still seems to be from Cowan up to Gower Point. That is a huge area and it is tough to know where...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday June 9, 2017

John with a beauty from his trip this week. Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report Fishing this past week took a bit of a turn.  The previous weekend was good, but as the week progressed the fishing did finally slow down a bit.  We can’t really complain though, the fishing had been good to great for a few weeks in a row off S. Bowen, so it was due to slow down.  The fish are still around, the trick this past week was trying to find them and battling through the weeds.  There were good bites from Gower all the way down to Cowan and if you were in the right place at the right time you had good fishing.  I also think some of the fish...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday June 2, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Fishing was pretty good this past week with lots of fish around in our local waters.  With so many fish on this side of the pond we haven’t been heading over to Nanaimo, Thrasher, or Porlier very much.  So this weeks report will focus on what is happening close to home. Let’s start by talking about the water, more specifically the colour of it.  The Fraser is in full freshet now, so lots of dirty water has been pumping out of the N Arm and S Arm.  This dirty freshwater sits on top of the saltwater and makes things a little darker down there.  As a result the bait is shallow and so are the chinook.  We have been marking...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday May 26, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report This last week saw some interesting fishing.  There were some hot days at Thrasher then some dead days, only to have some hot days down at Porlier and then some slow days.  There were also some red hot days at Roger Curtis followed by a few dead days and some good to great days at QA.  So in all of these spots there are fish, but as usual, they are moving around a lot.  The fishing really is changing day by day, from hot to not.  Keep in mind that just because it was hot or cold at one spot on one day doesn’t mean it will be that way the next. So where to go?  If the wind is...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday May 19, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report We are well into the spring time chinook season and by all accounts it has been a great one.  There continues to be good numbers of fish in the local waters, Howe Sound and over in the Gulf Islands. Locally it has been consistently productive from the QA to the Bell Buoy both on the ebb and the flood tide.  There have also been some fish out on the Hump.  It hasn’t been lights out in either spot, but if you put your time in you will be coming back with some chinook.  In both these areas the water has been dirty from the Fraser River freshet, and as a result the bait and chinook are shallow.  Productive depths on...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday May 12, 2017

Nick and Justen with some nice fish from a Thrasher trip with Jason on Monday.  Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The great fishing continued once again this past week.  I can’t recall a season with such consistent spring time chinook fishing.  If you look back at past reports from April and May you can see the fishing has been good for about 6 weeks now and I don’t anticipate this changing anytime soon.  It is only mid May and just know we are getting into peak season for Thrasher and there are still lots of fish around at the QA and Bell. Pat with some beauties caught on a local trip this week.  Here is a basic recap of the week.  Last Friday fishing was...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday May 5, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The good fishing continued this past week. When the winds allowed we were running over to Thrasher and there are still lots of fish over there and I don’t anticipate this changing anytime soon. Hot depths have been 90-150 on the riggers. Locally we are doing well from the Bell Buoy, out to the QA, and then out to the SE or SW corner of the Hump. The fish have been a little shallower on this side because the water is dirtier from the North Arm Fraser River flows and algae blooms. 70-110 has been good on the riggers. Crabbing has also been good. It was all thumbs up with Captain Eddie + his guests this week! We have a...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 28, 2017

Oliver's guest with a beauty fish landed at the Bell Bouy this Thursday. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The fishing this past week at Thrasher was nothing short of world class.  Double-headers and triple-headers earlier in the week kept our guides and guests busy but it did slow down a bit these last few days.  This was to be expected as it was absolutely red hot for about 10 days in a row, so it has to slow down eventually.  Even on the slower days, it was still very good fishing, we just got spoiled there for a week, so what we were calling slow is actually very good on a normal season.  The fishing should remain solid as we enter May.  We usually have...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 21, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report   We had some excellent fishing this past week with good numbers of fish at the QA, Hump, and Thrasher.   When the winds have allowed we have been over at Thrasher and the fishing has been nothing short of phenomenal.  We have had easy limits and hit double digits for hook ups each time we have made it across.  The fish are offshore in 600-1000 feet of water and are definitely in schools as we have had multiple doubles and even a few triples.   Depths on the riggers have been 120-150 for the most part although a few have been up around 90 and some as deep as 175.  The really hot zone seems to be 127-157 on the...
