Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Nov 24, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Windy and wet has been the theme these last couple of weeks and it looks like that isn’t going to change much for this weekend.  Not too much has changed on the fishing front either.  There has been moderate effort from our guide boats and customers in the traditional winter chinook spots of Howe Sound, Vancouver Harbour and the Gulf Islands.  Success has been decent, if you put the time in you will get the rewards, and there has been a mix of undersize fish and legal fish on most outings.  Crabbing and prawning continues to be decent. As many of you know, winter chinook fishing is highly variable, they move around a lot, so don’t wait for the hot...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Nov 17, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Looks like we have some heavy rain this weekend, as one would expect with the SE winds. It seems like a few things have been relentless these past few weeks, like the wind, the rain, and these darn colds going around. I have been home sick for 5 days, finally just getting better today and looking forward to getting back to the shop tomorrow.   So not much too report this week, but then again it is only mid November and we still have a good 4 months of winter chinook fishing to go. So we will keep a keen eye on the conditions, ready to pounce when things look good. The chinook, crabs, and prawns are out there, can’t wait...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Nov 10, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well the saltwater report is going to be short and sweet this week. Last week had a few charters lined up and few personal days but they never ended up happening. The winds got the better of us on the days we could head out, sometimes gusting north of 60 knots! Although the wind forecast this weekend isn’t great, it is certainly much better than last week, so that’s a start. There were a few people who did sneak out in some breaks between windstorms and there were some fish around. Nothing red hot, but they put the time in and were rewarded with a fish or two. As usual, there are pockets of fish from Howe Sound to Vancouver...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Nov 3, 2017

A decent size winter chinook from this week. Vancouver Saltwater Report Well it is November and the cool winter weather is starting to arrive with even some snow in the forecast for some regions. So when it feels like winter some get the skis ready but for us that means winter chinook season has finally arrived! In last weeks email I alluded to the fact that so far so good, with some early season success. That trend has continued for the most part, with our charters this past week picking up some nice chinook in the Howe Sound area. There have also been some good reports from South Bowen, Vancouver Harbour, Nanaimo, Gabriola, and Galliano areas. A couple of nice early winter chinook from a...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Oct 27, 2017

Examples of reel grease and oil we use on our reels and have in stock at Pacific Angler. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well it is that time of year, you either have your boat out of the water or you are gearing up for winter chinook. In today’s report I am going to talk about gear and boat maintenance. Next week I will go into detail on winter chinook tactics. Sneak peak there, it has been a good start to the season, but that’s all I am going to say for now… If you are done for the year, make sure to spend some time taking care of your boat and gear. Take the old line off your reel and give your reels a...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Oct 20, 2017

SALTWATER FISHING REPORT The rains have showed up in full force and as a result the Capilano River has come up and the last of the chinook and coho that were staging off the mouth of the river have gone up the river, officially marking the end of the Cap Mouth season. If you are looking for opportunities to head out saltwater fishing, although the Cap is done, there are good numbers of chum showing up off the Fraser. The test sets these past few days have been good, the best of the month actually, so it looks like the peak of that run is here right now. That being said, there have been some intense winds and rains, so not many or any people...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Oct 13, 2017

Eddie’s guest Dave with a nice hatchery coho from the Cap Mouth. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The fall season is winding down but there are still some fish being caught off the Cap mouth for those of us diehards still out there. Eddie and guests were out yesterday and hooked 2 nice chinook, which unfortunately were taken by seals. The good news is they did manage to release a nice wild coho and keep this good sized hatchery coho. Not bad for a quick mid day charter only minutes from downtown Vancouver! There are decent numbers of chum and coho coming into the Fraser right now so another option is heading down to the South Arm to target these runs. Not many anglers do,...

Captain Eddie's guests with their catch from a Cap trip this week Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The fall rains are here and we are officially into the tail end of our summer salmon season. It does seem like things have slowed down a bit this past week but it wouldn't surprise me if we saw one more push of chinook to the Cap with this low pressure system. Time will tell as always. Last Friday there were a lot of fish caught at the Cap and since that day it has been pretty sporadic. Most days we have been getting into a few chinook, but not any big number days. We have been getting a few nice coho while fishing for chinook as well....

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Sept 29, 2017

The Pacific Angler staff had a chance to sneak out for an evening fish on one of our boats on Sunday. Dustin landed this nice chinook. Still a few chrome ones rolling in. Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Sept 15, 2017

Brett holding up his Tyee from a trip with Jason at South Arm this week.  This fish tipped the scales at 30.73 pounds and almost emptied the reel on the first run!  Way to go Brett! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report This past week we did see the fishing for the red chinook slow down, as usual this time of year, and of course the addition of some white chinook in the local waters.  We also had a few more coho show up. We have been concentrating our efforts in two main areas.  On our shorter trips we have been fishing the Cap Mouth on the flood tide and have had some good success for the first of the Cap chinook showing up and we...
