Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Feb 2, 2018

Must have winter chinook flashers and some of my favorite spoons these past few months. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well finally it looks like there is a little break in the wind coming up with winds light in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, although that could change by Friday night. Lets hope not, I have had enough of the big wind forecasts. Too bad the rain won’t leave us alone as well, although I will take the 10-15 mm in the forecast over the 50 + mm from last weekend. The fishing remained consistent this past week on our guided trips and with the winds knocking off this weekend I expect it to be on the busy side of things. Eddie is booked...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 26, 2018

A couple of nice ones from Eddie’s trip this week! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well it has been a bit of a nasty week filled with big winds and heavy rains, but that didn't stop Eddie and some guest from heading out this week and the fish were in a rewarding kind of mood!   They had a great day with a limit of 4 chinook and released a few nice ones as well.  There were some smaller fish in the mix too, resulting in a very active and productive day.  Best part was there was nobody else there… When it comes to winter chinook fishing, you have to go when you can go, despite the winds and the rain.  Our boats are equipped with...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 19, 2018

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report This past week was a mixed bag of weather with wind, fog, rain, even a little bit of sun from time to time.  If you are heading out this weekend be aware of the Gale Force Warning for the Strait of Georgia South of Nanaimo with SE winds up to 40 knots and of course some rain.  The forecast for Howe Sound doesn't look too bad though, so if you are heading out that will be the place to be. We are in our usual Jan/Feb pattern of consistent winter fishing where if you put in the time you are usually rewarded with a few nice chinook.  As always, keeping your gear close to the bottom is the way to...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 12, 2018

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Fishing continues to be solid and if you can find a day where the winds and rain aren’t too bad, even better! Looking ahead to this weekend it looks like some rain on Saturday but on Sunday the sun is going to make an appearance. As for the winds, the SE in the Strait of Georgia looks like it will be moderate but the outflow out of Howe Sound is being persistent, but not at the levels we saw earlier this month. There are fish well spread out through Howe Sound and good numbers in the Gulf Island as well, so there really is no one hot spot. All spots are producing fish and the name of the game is...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Jan 5, 2018

Aimee and Darren holding up a couple of Gulf Island chinook from our efforts on Saturday. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Happy New Year to all you winter chinook fisherman out there and a Happy New Year it was indeed! Fishing over the New Years weekend was productive in the Howe Sound area as well as the Gulf Islands. In our local waters Eddie was out on a number of trips in Howe Sound this past week and had consistent fishing with some nice keepers and lots of action from some of the smaller guys as well. Crabbing and prawning has also been decent and made for some great dinners of fresh winter chinook, Dungeness crab, and prawns! Note that as of Jan 1 there...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 29, 2017

Kai with a nice winter chinook caught on a very wintery trip this week! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report I am happy to report that fishing has been good this past week. We have been out on a number of charters and have had some great success with lots of action from smaller fish to keep us on our toes and some nice keeper fish as well. Crabbing has also been good, so we have been dropping traps on most trips. For the most part we have been fishing in Howe Sound but there has been some decent action in Vancouver Harbour too. As usual for December and January, the fish are all over the place, you just need to be in the right place...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 22, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Well the snow finally showed up this week. Despite that, there has been some activity out on the water. Not much has changed from last week, except the temps are colder. There continues to be fish caught in Howe Sound and Vancouver Harbour and the odd report of fish over in the Gulf Islands. It is officially time to break out the heater if you are heading out this weekend. With daytime temps of 2-3 C expect it to be cold out on the ocean! Might not be the best weekend to head up Howe Sound either. The outflow winds look like they will be in full force and the wind chill will make it pretty darn cold. This would...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 15, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Finally the fog has lifted!  Fishing was decent this past week when we could sneak out past the fog.  Eddie headed up Howe Sound and was into some nice fish this week. Captain Eddie’s guests holding up some nice keepers from a trip earlier in the week. I fished the Bell for a half day on the weekend and got into some fish as well.  The fish I hooked at the Bell were all undersize, but there was lots of bait and some nice arcs on the sounder.   Perhaps if I had a bit more time I would have found a legal fish. Some nice bait balls and arcs at the Bell this past weekend. As usual, flashers and spoons...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 8, 2017

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report If you have some time off in December for Christmas Holidays, have some friends in town, or are just here visiting, I would suggest getting out for some winter chinook fishing.   It has been about a month now since the winter season really got rolling and so far, so good.  In fact there have been some down right awesome days out there with good numbers of chinook coming back to the dock.  Even on the slower days there has been decent action with smaller chinook to keep the rods bouncing and a few long line releases on bigger fish.  To top it off, crabbing and prawning has also been productive.  So if you want some fresh air or want to...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Dec 1, 2017

A pair of nice winter chinook from our last trip. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report It finally looks like we are gong to get a break from the rain, just a bit more to go on Saturday. The same can be said for the winds as well. No more gale force wind warnings. So that means its time to get out there and chase some winter chinook. We were out last weekend, despite the wind and rain, and it was well worth the effort. We had a good action and came back with a few nice fish. Productive spoons were Irish Cream and Herring Aide in the 3.0 size with a 6 foot leader to a green or chartreuse glow flasher. As usual for this...
