We decided to leave the dock at 6:00 am today instead of the usual 7:00 am departure time so we could catch as much of the high slack as possible.  Things paid off as the action around the slack tide was excellent for coho in the W.Van area.  Multiple hook ups were had, including a few double headers and we ended up putting a few fish in the box.  Unfortunately the bite died off as the tide started to push but we made the best of it in the morning.  As per the last few weeks, white hootchies, and spoons have been working well.  There are also some fish getting caught on smaller Apex lures in white, red, or pink.

Andrew was out on an 8 hour charter today in search of some big springs.  The test sets on the Fraser are clearly showing that there are good numbers of chinook heading up the river.  The numbers are much higher compared to this time last year.  After searching hard from the Bell to the QA for most of the morning with not much success, the decision was made to check out W. Van for some coho and then Howe Sound for some springs.  All in all things were fairly slow in all locations today.  There are still some coho being caught off W. Van and some decent springs up Howe Sound but the Fraser River springs don’t seem to be showing off the Bell Buoy…

Andrew was out today on a 5 hour charter and found some coho in the W. Van area.  There are decent numbers of fish around and if you can find them and stay on top of them the action has been consistent.  Again the top producers have been white hootchies and smaller spoons on a fast troll in the top 60 feet of water.  There have been a few reports of fish up Howe Sound off Hole in the Wall or Sunset for those willing to make the trip or are launching in that area.  The odd chinook destined for the Fraser is getting caught off the Bell Buoy and QA marker but things have been sporadic at best in these areas.

Eddie  was out on two 5 hour charters today and had good success off W. Van for coho.  It seems some more fish have showed up and things are picking up again.  Working the top of the water column on a fast troll has been successful.  By this we mean from the surface down to around 60 feet with a 20-40 degree angle on the downrigger cables using a 15lb cannonball.  The top producers have been white hootchies with a short leader (27-32 inches) and spoons on a 4-6 foot leader in green and glow 3.5 and 4.0 or coho killer spoons in green glow or UV white.

Jason  Tonelli was over at Thrasher on the June 19th for a 10 hour charter and managed to dig out 3 springs for the day but the action was fairly slow over all.  Andrew Szabowas on a 5 hour charter closer to home and found some good schools of Capilano coho off W Van and had good action all day. Andrew was back out on Sunday, June 20th and had great action off W. Van to Point Atkinson, including a quad on coho!  They managed double digits for coho hook ups and put some nice hatchery coho in the box.  Best action was on white hootchies and glow green spoons in the 50 foot range right up to the where your flasher is just under…

All I can say is WOW!  We had some amazing fishing in the last few days of May and the first week of June.  The hot spot was over at Thrasher Rock.  At first the fish were offshore in 800-1200 feet of water and we were hooking them on glow green hootchies, glow blue hootchies, and of course the popular glow green spoon or cop car spoon.  The hot depts were 90, 120, 155, 175 with most of the fish coming from the 175 mark and sometimes even 200.  15lb cannonballs are a must when fishing these depths and we had our best fishing on the days when the tide was fairly mellow and we could keep our gear deep.  As the fishery progressed the…

We had some amazing fishing and crabbing in April and May this year. The season started off around April 10th for springs off the S end of Bowen and things continued to be excellent throughout the rest of April and all of May off the S end of Bowen and the QA marker. We had good to great fishing for springs in the mid teens with a few pushing the 20lb mark. As usual, the weather was a bit of a challenge at times, but when the wind was down and you could get out off the S end of Bowen you were rewarded with very consistent catches of chinook. Today is all about new arrivals. Not only did the fish show up today after some what of a slow weekend, but one of our top guides Craig Mumby is back on our 27 foot Grady the “Salty Dawg” as well. Craig guides at Langara in the summer and guides for Pacific Angler Charters all Fall, Winter, and Spring before he heads back up to Langara Island Lodge.

Jason was out at first light with Danny Merth to give the local waters a quick fish before they both headed back to Pacific Angler for a day in the shop. In the quick morning fish they managed a small chinook around 8lbs which they released,

Well I was out on the water today on a trip with Peter from Vancouver and Ken from Toronto. What a day to be out on the water. Flat calm and hot! We fished the flood tide at the mouth of the Capilano all the way up to high slack in the afternoon.
