Beginning of June 2010

All I can say is WOW!  We had some amazing fishing in the last few days of May and the first week of June.  The hot spot was over at Thrasher Rock.  At first the fish were offshore in 800-1200 feet of water and we were hooking them on glow green hootchies, glow blue hootchies, and of course the popular glow green spoon or cop car spoon.  The hot depts were 90, 120, 155, 175 with most of the fish coming from the 175 mark and sometimes even 200.  15lb cannonballs are a must when fishing these depths and we had our best fishing on the days when the tide was fairly mellow and we could keep our gear deep.  As the fishery progressed the better fishing seemed to be closer to Thrasher and we were hooking them off the ledge in 135 to 250 feet of water.  The best depths were anywhere from 155 up to around 90.  The hootchies and spoons were again the way to go.  Most of the fish had herring in the 3-5 inch range in their bellies and the odd squid.  We were getting into some quality fish, up to 24lbs, with the average fish in the mid teens.  There were some notable days; one day Craig Mumby guided his clients into over 16 hook ups and Jason Tonelli guided clients into 38 springs in a 4 day stretch of guiding, 15 of them coming in one day.  Unfortunately the action slowed down June 10th and has been a little hit and miss since then.
