Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report: January 15, 2016

Report The fishing continues to be good for winter chinook here in Vancouver. So far in general the season has been a productive one for those willing to put in the time in search of these tasty winter chinook salmon. Fishing in the harbour has been producing mostly undersize fish so far, with a few shots at larger fish. This can change in an instant. Historically right around mid Jan we see some larger fishing being caught in the harbor. Two productive spots are the Cap Mouth to Pink Apartment area on the flood tide and the Freighters on the ebb tide. In both spots make sure to keep your gear very close to the bottom as that is where the bait is and so…

Chinook salmon landed by this gear

VANCOUVER SALTWATER FISHING REPORT The season is now in full swing and as mentioned in the last report, there has been good fishing from Washington up to Campbell River. A little closer to home, right in the harbor along the West Van shoreline, there were some decent reports this past week. In fact the fishing in the harbor was as active or more active than Howe Sound on some days, with undersize and some nice legal size fishing providing good action. Unfortunately this week the seals were an issue and anglers that were into legal size fish were losing them to seals. Some years this can be an issue, so hopefully these educated seals move on so you can land the fish. If you do…

Vancouver Saltwater Report: January 1 , 2016 Happy New Year!

Salmon_Vancouver

SALTWATER REPORT Finally the rain and wind backed off and our guides were able to get out and chase down some winter chinook! As mentioned in last weeks report, so far so good, as we are getting good reports pretty much from Campbell River down to Washington. We landed these two nice fish by keeping our gear close the bottom and covering lots of water. One of the keys to doing that is trolling fast and we recommend 18 LB cannonballs to keep the gear down on a fast troll. A couple of nice winter chinook from this week. Last year we had some exceptional winter chinook fishing in early to mid January so if you would like to book a trip, please contact us…

Vancouver salmon fishing report

VANCOUVER SALTWATER SALMON FISHING REPORTS Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for July 10, 2015. Beach Fishing Last week the tides were not the best to fish off the beach but a few fish were caught on gear off the jetty. I saw a lot of fish where we would normally be able to stand close enough and fish for them on a day with suitable tides. This is good sign as the tides from Saturday onwards are going to be good to cast to these fish. Make sure you take advantage of this, as the fish are fresh and it will get harder and harder the more you wait. Every time you cast to a pod of fish and they refuse it, change…

VANCOUVER SALTWATER SALMON FISHING REPORTS Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for June 19, 2015! Beach Fishing It is getting close to the arrival of salmon at our local beaches. Yes it is time to get ready for another season of beach fishing for coho and pinks. I have been checking regularly for the past two weeks to see if by any chance there are fish, but haven’t seen much to shout about. With the exceptionally low water year for the Capilano River we might have a really good accumulation of salmon in the estuary. It will be coho any day and by mid July the pink salmon should arrive, estimated at 20 million. Get your 7-8 weight rods with a floating or intermediate…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: December 31, 2021

VANCOUVER SALTWATER SALMON FISHING REPORT Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for June 12, 2015. The persistent winds offshore have prevented everyone from fishing almost everywhere but hole in the wall. Although it hasn’t been hot fishing yet there are certainly a few nice fish around with a 24lb’r topping the chart.   Productive depths are in the 100ft range with one day producing fish at 50ft. In terms of tackle Homeland Security, Pesca Gut Bomb in both the 3″ and 4″, Irish cream and bait have been working best. Other favorite patterns like the Green Glo and Kitchen Sink are also doing well. The best flashers are Chartreuse with Glo and mirror Mylar, green onion or any similar patterns. When I was out…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: January 9, 2015

Vancouver salmon fishing report

Vancouver Saltwater Report Winter chinook fishing has continued to be productive overall this past week. It seemed things slowed down a lot up in Howe Sound but perhaps this was due to the full moon and the lower pressure system we had about 4 or 5 days ago. Mother Nature never leaves the good fisherman without some creative excuses as to why the fishing was slow! Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for January 9th, 2015.   There have been some decent catches of winter chinook in the Harbour at the usual spots like the W. Van shoreline, Cap mouth and the freighters. We are continuing to hear good reports from our neighbour’s down in Washington as well as Vancouver Island along the east…

Big Bites and Frayed Cable – Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report

Vancouver salmon fishing report

Thrasher Rock has been fishing great this past week. The Grande and Thrasher reef have been producing some nice chinook. Anglers who are willing to take a chance and venture out off shore have been greatly rewarded with some fast paced fishing once they have located fish. We have been hitting our fish from 75ft down to 135ft on the riggers on a mixture of spoons and hootchies. Productive flashers have had some glow on them as the water has been pretty dirty. Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for May 30, 2015 Entrance, Snake, and Five Fingers have also been fishing well. The hot depths for us at these locations were 160-200ft on the riggers. The fish seem to be down deep…

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Big Fish and Big Smiles!

Vancouver salmon fishing report

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Here is your Vancouver salmon fishing report for May 8, 2014. The time to go after chinook is now!  I could end the report right there, but that would be pretty boring.  In short though, the fishing has been red hot over on the other side of the Strait of Georgia with excellent reports from Nanaimo down to Thrasher, down to Porlier.  Anglers have been fishing from 200 feet to 1500 feet offshore and getting fish as shallow as 40 and as deep as 180.  So what does this all mean?  It means there are a huge amount of chinook in the Strait right now and you should be booking a charter ASAP or getting out on your own boat….

Vancouver salmon fishing report

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The past little while has seen the fishing on The Hump being good to excellent, with most fish being found in and around depths of 90 to 120 feet. Here is your Vancouver Salmon Fishing report for May 2, 2014. Reports from anglers have been that fish are being caught on on herring, anchovies, and spoons. So far, spoon size has been relatively average with popular sizes being 3.0 and 3.5. Popular spoons and colours have been the It’s Not, Leprechaun, Irish Cream, and Homeland Security. A beautiful West Coast chinook that fell to a herring Lately, we have also been starting to hear good reports from those who have ventured over to Thrasher, as well as offshore in waters 500-1000 feet,…
