Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 27, 2018

Our guests back at the dock with their catch after some productive trips with Captain Jason this week. Fishing has been nothing short of exceptional this past week with good numbers of chinook being taken in pretty much every spot I can think of. There are now chinook off South Bowen from Roger Curtis to Cowan both inshore and offshore, from the Bell to the QA, out on the Hump and off Gabriola and Nanaimo. The when and where is simply a factor on how much time you have and how windy it is and perhaps the size of your boat. Either way, the results have often been the same with great catches being the norm, not the exception. How long will this hot fishing...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 20, 2018

Can't go wrong with day's like this over at Gabriola! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The good fishing continued this past week in our local waters as well as over in Nanaimo to the Gulf Islands. Lets take a closer look at what is going on locally. There is definitely a good number of chinook in our local waters. As usual for this time of year there is a mix of red and white springs with most of the bigger fishing being the whites. This past week there were good numbers of fish caught from the Bell out to the QA, out past the QA, and on the Hump as well. Some of the days the wind kept us closer to the Bell and we...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 13, 2018

Captain Eddie's guest with a nice one from a local trip this week. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report It has been a great week of fishing, but we can’t say the same about the weather. This past week we saw our fair share of SE winds and rain. Looking to the weekend and next week it looks like we will see a break in the rain and even some NW winds and a few days of light variable winds early in the week. A Gulf Islands Grady Rainbow. On the fishing front, there is a lot going on. The best action locally has been around the QA Marker and out on the Hump. When the winds were strong and we couldn't fish there effectively we...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday April 6, 2018

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report The fishing has been consistent this past week with lots of options. There is currently good fishing off the Bell Buoy, QA, Hump, and the first reports of the year are coming in from Thrasher. So there are lots of options. I wouldn't say that one spot is better than any other at the moment I will say that the seals have been pretty bad off the Bell and sometimes at the QA so keep that in mind.   If you have a seal following you just pick up and move as the second you get a decent fish you will get sealed. The girls were getting done this week from the QA to the Bell! The amount of bait around...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 30, 2018

Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Our guide boats were out on a number of trips this past week and for the most part the fishing was solid.  Our guests worked hard and were rewarded with some nice fish along with some more that managed to get away, and a fair amount of undersized fish.  We have been focusing our efforts in Vancouver Harbour around the Bell Bouy and the freighters area, which has been productive this past week. There has also been a few good reports from further up Howe Sound as well as across the straight, but with consistent fishing locally the last week that is where our focus has been on most trips. The usual flashers such as the Lemon Lime Series, Salty...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 16, 2018

Stretched out at Porlier. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report There was a lot going on this past week with water conditions, fish depth, and we also fished all over the place, including Lower Howe Sound, Bell Buoy, Thrasher, and Porlier. First lets start with the water conditions. This past week we saw a distinct change in the water colour. Gone are the days of the blue and clear water where you can see your flasher down to about 45 feet when you are dropping it down on the rigger. The algae bloom has started, and a bit early too, and with it we now have more of a tea coloured water. The same can be said over at Thrasher and Porlier as well. This does...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday March 2, 2018

Captain Eddie's guests had some great winter chinook fishing in some true winter conditions! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Looks like the cold weather is gone for now. Do I dare say it is gone for the season? Time to start on the boat maintenance pretty quick. Don't wait until April or May or you will miss some of the best chinook fishing of the season. We were working on our boats yesterday and at one point had the jackets off and short sleeve shirts on! The fishing can be described in one word. Consistent. If you put your time in the rewards will come. The usual suspects have been producing well, such as glow flashers and glow spoons like the Skinny G, Kingfisher and G-Force....

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Feb 23, 2018

These Skinny G spoons are a must have for local winter chinook fishing. Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report It's a winter wonderland out there today so it might be a good weekend to tie leaders and get ready for when the weather finally warms up.  On the other, if you are a diehard the forecast for the winds doesn't look too bad for this weekend and the colder weather definitely keeps the crowds down. The fishing continues to be steady, with consistent action in Howe Sound, Vancouver Harbour and Gulf Islands.  As usual, the fish are moving around a lot, with one day only some small fish and the next day mostly keepers.  It is a highly variable fishery so the best thing to do...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Feb 16, 2018

Eric holding up a nice fat red spring from a trip on Monday! Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report We were on the water a lot this past week and spent some time over in the Gulf Islands, in Vancouver Harbour, and in Howe Sound. We picked up some nice chinook in all locations and lots of smaller fish as well. As usual, keeping your gear close to the bottom is the way to go this time of year, although I am starting to see some suspended bait balls and chinook signals, so I don’t think it will be too long before we start picking up a few fish mid water column in some spots. So far the fish have been on herring, so we will...

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report: Friday Feb 9, 2018

Natalie with a decent winter chinook taken just off the bottom with a 3.0 Herring Aide spoon Vancouver Saltwater Salmon Fishing Report Fishing was pretty solid this past week with good reports from a variety of locations. We didn't make it over to the Gulf Islands, but some of our friends did and had some good fishing, which is pretty standard for this time of year. Our boats stayed a little closer to home and we had some good fishing in Howe Sound as well as decent prawning and crabbing. We are pretty much in the middle of winter chinook season and that means you can expect good amounts of bait and fish on most days. If the wind and weather are decent, its time...
