Happy New Year: Salmon Fishing in Vancouver!
Captain Eddie was out on the Salty Dawg for a local 5 hour trip today with his guests. The waters were glassy calm, the skies fantastically blue and the fishing not bad. Although it has been chilly, the strong ridge of high pressure has brought brilliant sunny skies to Vancouver and turned the fishing up a few notches! The trips best chance was a vicious big strike which did not materialize into “big fish on” however it definitely got the adrenaline pumping. They’re here! The trip yielded a few scrappy undersize Chinook which had to be released and a few small “shaker” size salmon which also had to be released.
On Thursday, December 30 Pacific Angler associate Jason A. was out on the water and bagged a couple of nice keeper salmon for his guests while fishing the north side of Vancouver harbour. He also had a few shakers and several undersize. All in all, it kept his guests busy and watching the rods intently! The holiday season also had a half dozen other boats fishing in the immediate vicinity and they all reported reasonable action with a number of other nice keeper feeder salmon being caught. One boat reported one Chinook into the mid teens! This is a great sign and the best concentrated action we’ve seen in the last few weeks. I’m optimistic this is the start of consistent action for our guests as it has been slow in coming. From now on, I would expect fishing to continue to improve in the Vancouver area.
