Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report, Feb 5th, 2016

Things were fairly consistent this past week, not red hot fishing, but certainly better than the fishing around the full moon in late January. For the most part there were fish to be had in Vancouver Harbour, Howe Sound, and the Gulf Islands. Those who put their time in were rewarded with a fish or two. The fish have generally been in the 8-12 pound range although we have seen a few in the mid to high teens. There really hasn’t been a stand out spot this year so far and this season is starting to look like it will be more of a “normal” season compared to last year which was one of the best in a long time. Our best advice for this…

Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report: January 29th, 2016

Fishing continued to be decent this past week but you definitely needed some luck on your side when it came to picking your locations. Last week on our guided trips and personal trips we fished Vancouver Harbour, multiple spots throughout Howe Sound, Coal Ports and Porlier. I feel like we got a pretty good sampling of what is going on out there and some spots were decent, others were very quiet, but none were what we would call on fire. Some of that slower action likely had to do with the full moon around the 23rd. Now that we have that out of the way, we expect things will pick up a bit more. In Vancouver Harbour it was relatively slow and there are lots…

Vancouver Saltwater Fishing Report: January 15, 2016

Report The fishing continues to be good for winter chinook here in Vancouver. So far in general the season has been a productive one for those willing to put in the time in search of these tasty winter chinook salmon. Fishing in the harbour has been producing mostly undersize fish so far, with a few shots at larger fish. This can change in an instant. Historically right around mid Jan we see some larger fishing being caught in the harbor. Two productive spots are the Cap Mouth to Pink Apartment area on the flood tide and the Freighters on the ebb tide. In both spots make sure to keep your gear very close to the bottom as that is where the bait is and so…

Chinook salmon landed by this gear

VANCOUVER SALTWATER FISHING REPORT The season is now in full swing and as mentioned in the last report, there has been good fishing from Washington up to Campbell River. A little closer to home, right in the harbor along the West Van shoreline, there were some decent reports this past week. In fact the fishing in the harbor was as active or more active than Howe Sound on some days, with undersize and some nice legal size fishing providing good action. Unfortunately this week the seals were an issue and anglers that were into legal size fish were losing them to seals. Some years this can be an issue, so hopefully these educated seals move on so you can land the fish. If you do…

Vancouver Saltwater Report: January 1 , 2016 Happy New Year!

SALTWATER REPORT Finally the rain and wind backed off and our guides were able to get out and chase down some winter chinook! As mentioned in last weeks report, so far so good, as we are getting good reports pretty much from Campbell River down to Washington. We landed these two nice fish by keeping our gear close the bottom and covering lots of water. One of the keys to doing that is trolling fast and we recommend 18 LB cannonballs to keep the gear down on a fast troll. A couple of nice winter chinook from this week. Last year we had some exceptional winter chinook fishing in early to mid January so if you would like to book a trip, please contact us…
