Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report August 6th

Well I had the pleasure and fortune of hosting some Pacific Angler clients on a fly fishing trip to the Dean River at BC West lodge this last week, so I haven’t been out locally.  Our Head Guide Eddie Matthei was on the local saltwater all week in the Salty Dawg, salmon fishing in Vancouver in the first week of August in the hot sun!

Here is Eddie’s report from the last few days on the water:

Summer sun and summer coho off W. Vancouver, only minutes from our dock.

“The earlier part of the week was a bit of a grind to get the odd fish probably due to the strong tides and quick bites we had. Last Thursday was very productive and lots of boats were getting action. It was decent action on Friday and Saturday. Sunday the bite was a little slower. Basically it’s a matter of being there when they’re in the mood. The fish are in many spots from Point Atkinson to the Cap and lately in tight to the shallows. I’ve found myself fishing in water as shallow as 20′ Anchovies are working as well as are white hootchies, spoons, and small to medium white and pink Apex. There’s a few nice sized Cohos around and you can also now see a few of them jumping. It also seems on most days at least one or two boats finding a Spring or two off West Van, and the Mile Markers but we’ll have to wait for those Bell Buoy and Mile Markers to really light up soon. Hole in the Wall still has the odd report of springs taken there as well. The next wave might just be around the corner as the chinook fishing usually gets good right about now and the coho continue to roll in.”

We have the day off today but we are out on the water pretty much every day this week, so stay tuned for some more reports!

See you on the water or in the shop,
