Vancouver Salmon Fishing Update: Tuesday June 19

Welcome everyone to Vancouver’s salmon fishing headquarters.  We not only offer fully guided salmon charters but we are Vancouver’s largest fishing tackle store.

Not to toot our own horn but all of the guys have been working hard to make sure we have the best tackle in town and get our clients into fish on the “Salty Dawg”.  It has been a great month both at the store and on the water for the Salty Dawg.

A solid catch from a Thrasher Rock trip!

Jason and Eddie have had some great days out there both locally (late May) and across the Georgia Straight near Gabriola Island and Nanaimo.  And with a great month behind us we are looking forward to a full summer of fishing for big chinook salmon, coho and maybe even sockeyes (if the fishery opens).

A good customer of ours dropped by on Monday.  He was out on West Vancouver and got into a few coho.  He reported his catch was on spoons and running his riggors from 40 to 100 ft.  I will have to warn you this is the very beginning of this fishery.  With any luck the coho will start to stack up along the West Vancouver shoreline when the Capilano River drops.  When the river does drop and the fish show up in good numbers (which could be any day) the fishing could be amazing.

This is great news for the local saltwater angler and anyone who wants to get out on a five hour charter.  When the coho start showing up it can be great angling plus we’ve also had some very good crabbing.  I would also not be surprised if you got into a big chinook while trolling for coho as there may be a few early fish coming through.

Thrasher Rock has still been producing well with a good report on Monday.  Jason will be out tomorrow.  He can’t wait to get out on the water again.  Particularly with the predicted forecast…sunny with light winds!

The “Salty Dawg” is booked solidly from now until the weekend.  However, we do have openings next week and even the weekend which is great news for the traveller or local fishermen looking to get out with friends and family.
