Jan. 22 Gulf Islands Report

A fun day today! The Salty Dawg with Guides Jason T. and Andrew on board headed over to the Gulf Islands to check in on the action–it’s a bit early for this fishery but RECON pays dividends when it comes to providing our guests the best results.   It was a late start today, but we decided we’d head over anyways.  We got the rods in at “High Noon” and were encouraged by an on the water report from another local pro who had headed over early this morning.  The action was immediate! We dropped in beside him and promptly started hitting fish! With the first hour of fishing, we hit 4 fish. Not bad for being late to the party! The BITE WAS STILL ON!  We lost the first 3 good fish and managed to boat the 4th–a FANTASTIC BRIGHT CHROME WINTER CHINOOK SALMON! In the next hour we hit a couple more fish—an undersize and another which didn’t stay on! NOT BAD for a late start! Our friendly local pro who got started before reported consistent action for 3 hours, having 15 Salmon hit the gear! WOW! He finished with a couple of nice sized in the cooler and definitely had a productive day. Another local boat in the same vicinity was having good action as well. At one point, all 3 of us were hooked up!  If today is any indication of the near future, we’re in for a FANTASTIC fishing season!

Meanwhile, closer to home, one of associates went fishing on Vancouver’s doorstep and hit some nice fish and kept a nice fish. GREAT TO SEE ACTION on BOTH SIDES of Georgia Strai

As you can see, NOW is the time to book a charter and head out fishing and partake in the action. We have multiple options for your fishing adventure…and a full day charter to the Gulf Islands usually makes for an action packed day or a half day local charter which offers up some great salmon fishing opportunities! Get your game on! The choice is yours!  Give us a call to book a Vancouver salmon fishing adventure!

For you locals: The best depths for fishing at Thrasher Rock are anywhere from 120-180 feet down…and don’t be afraid to get in tight and fish the ledges! Having a good sounder capable of reading to 500 feet is definitely a requirement. Hoochies and Spoons are the most popular tackle at Thrasher. Hoochies in Mint Tulip, Army Truck Haze, Glow Green or Glow Blue Spackleback, or ANYTHING WITH GREEN or luminous qualities are the best bets. The Spackleback Hoochie is usually one of our top performers over there! Spoons with Green, Green Glow, or anything glow are most likely on our rods.

See you here!
