Vancouver Salmon Charters

Vancouver’s saltwater salmon fishing can be accessed 12 months a year only minutes from our slip. Starting in the winter months and continuing into the spring time we have great fishing for immature, feeding chinook salmon, called “feeder springs” in the 10-25lb range. These are a local favorite, both for their fantastic eating quality and their spirited fights. As we enter the summer months we are ideally situated to benefit from the millions of salmon returning to the massive Fraser River and other smaller local rivers. The first of the larger mature chinook salmon will show up in June and the runs continue to build all summer long. In July we will start to see coho salmon and by the end of July we are catching large chinook, coho, and the first of the pink and sockeye salmon. August is where we have multiple species present. Chinook, coho, pinks, sockeye and chums. As September rolls in we continue to have great fishing for chinook, coho, pinks, and chums as the last of the fish show up waiting for the fall rains to pull them up the river. The fall rains in late October and November see the fish heading up the rivers and we start to focus on the upcoming winter spring season.

The Gulf Islands

The south eastern section of Vancouver Island is encompassed by the Gulf Islands. The Gulf Islands are made up of over 100 islands ranging in size from many hectares to a few hundred square meters. In amongst the islands are countless fishy points, bays and reefs. Having the Gulf Islands so close to Vancouver adds another interesting dimension for our 8 and 10 hour day trips as well as a possibility for overnight packages. To add to the excitement and beautiful scenery offered by the Gulf Islands, it is commonplace to spot killer whales (orcas), bald eagles, harbour seals and sea lions! If you are looking to book an 8 to 10 hour charter or simply want a mini salmon vacation, we highly recommend the Gulf Islands.

Beach Salmon Trips

Hidden and productive beaches with cruising salmon are only a short boat ride away. If trolling is not for you and you dream of casting a fly or light spinning gear to salmon we can situate you on one of many beaches with amazing scenery and shallow water salmon fishing. The best months are August, September and October as the pinks, coho, chinook, and chum salmon stage on the beaches waiting for the fall rains. We have guides that are expert local beach fisherman, and they will guide you into some exhilarating fly fishing for salmon, and cutthroat. Often you are sight casting to rolling fish! Light spinning gear is also a fantastic way to target these fish and we can have multiple fish days in the serenity of the local mountains.

Cutthroat

Coastal sea run cutthroat trout are beautiful nomadic fish! Pacific Angler staff has significant experience targeting these fish with fly fishing equipment. Through years of searching and exploring, we have narrowed down some productive and exceptionally scenic areas in which to find these fish. Timing is extremely important as these fish, while being nomadic in nature to begin with, transition between fresh and saltwater annually. With a keen understanding of the life cycle and diet of coastal cutthroat trout, fly fishers can successfully target these fish while enjoying an amazing adventure only a short distance from the busy city.

Central Coast
